What I Like – Keurig k45 review

  1. Quality Build

My old Black and Decker coffee maker used to be quite sturdy, so I was a bit disappointed to see how flimsy the Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System looked when I first opened the box. Much to my surprise, this coffee maker is very solid and much heavier than you’d think. The plastic is reasonably thick so the unit won’t crack or wear out too fast. I’ve been owning my Keurig K45 (and actually used it in my NYC office) for eight months now, and so far its performance was nothing short of spectacular.

If cared for properly, it’s no doubt it will last forever.

  1. Indicator Lights

One thing I really love about this Keurig coffee maker is the indicator lights. They let you set up the machine for brewing easily, and make the process more straightforward. Whenever the unit runs out of water, the lights start flashing, indicating that more water is needed for the brewing to continue. Once you add more water, the brewing process will resume.

  1. 3-Cup Sizes

I always start my morning with an 8-ounce cup of coffee — if I don’t drink it, I can’t function throughout the day. However, my wife loves a smaller cup, of about 5-6 ounces. That’s why I looked specifically for a coffee maker to accommodate different cup sizes, and the Keurig K45 was the perfect choice. It lets you select from 3 cup sizes (6 oz, 8 oz and 10 oz), which is convenient if you’d like a really big cup of your favorite brew. Since the drip tray is removal, you can use taller mugs and even medium-sized travel mugs as well.

  1. Quick Brewing Process

The brewing process on the Keurig K45 is relatively quick, and I can get my cup of coffee in under 5 minutes. As with any other coffee maker I’ve bought in the past, I always follow the instructions in the manual for brewing a cup of coffee, skipping the grind (in this case, the K-cup) and then discarding the resulting cup of water. This helps clean the machine and gets it ready for brewing.

The coffee making process is very simple and straightforward. Turn the machine on and allow it to heat for 3-4 minutes. Fill the water reservoir to the Max Fill line, place a cup of mug on the drip tray, lift the handle so that the K-cup pack holder opens, and place your K-cup into the holder. Lower the handle completely to close the lid, choose your brew size, and start brewing!

What I Don’t Like

There isn’t much I don’t like about the Keurig K45. For a coffee maker in this price range, I’d say it does its job well. However, the coffee won’t taste very good if you don’t use the charcoal water filter, which helps remove unpleasant flavors from the water. They aren’t expensive to buy, but they certainly make the brewing process a little bit complicated.

Also, I don’t like is the footprint of the unit. It takes a lot of space on my countertop, and since my kitchen isn’t that big, this is a bit frustrating. If I’m not cooking, this won’t bother me at all.

So far I’ve been extremely satisfied with the Keurig K45. It isn’t only an affordable coffee maker, but also a convenient option given that Keurig lets you use any K-cup of your choice, even if it’s not Keurig-made. It won’t be a good choice for coffee aficionados who want their coffee prepped in a certain way, but it will most definitely accommodate the needs of your family or even office workers.
